Installing fonts in Ubuntu 10.04
If you’ve started using Ubuntu 10.04 already, you are probably having a fairly good experience. What a lot of people might not know is just how deeply that good experience goes. An issue that has plagued Linux since inception is fonts. Whether it be the lack of “standard” fonts (and by standard I mean Microsoft) or the lack of “cool” or “artsty” fonts, the act of installing fonts has always mystified people. Well, that is no more. With the release of Ubuntu 10.04 and the help of the Ubuntu Software Center, adding fonts have now become child’s play in Ubuntu Linux. Does that mean you have to give up your old way of adding fonts? Of course not! But now, you have a new, simple way of adding fonts.

1. I have to boot up with a DVD in the drive in order to mount it in 10.04 LTS
I did not have this problem with 9.04 Jaunty.

Nevertheless, I got tons of new fonts. ;)

I LOVE this distro. :loveya:

That doesn't sound good...

But yeah, many improvements in this distro:
An all-in-one integrated facebook, twitter, social app which I personally don't use but understand that many users do.
Built in plug-n-play iPod support makes me want to run out and buy an iPod.

What I've noticed:
Fast, fast boot. Around 15 seconds. And an even faster shutdown. It's not the prettiest boot, yet. But it's fast. I had some startup/shutdown issues with my previous Windows install that used to drive me nuts.
The default image viewer supports animated gifs finally. I used to have to open those in a web browser to see them. And it's much faster flipping from picture to picture.

I think this should be Ubuntu's theme song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfFTGOEB-5c

3. Yep, and I've tried many 'mounting' and 'disk management' type programs supplied by canonical

I am sure it is something easy to solve, for someone who is not a n00b like me. :D

I love the look of the updated GUI, but not the purple start-up screen, nor the log in box... I'll figure out how to change this somehow. ;)
