Question for ya regarding Open Office suite

I wrote an odp presentation that included graphics and when I ported it to pdf format all of the cropping was lost which ruined many of the slides with graphics. So, I tried cropping the images with the draw program, saving them, and then copying them over to the presentation program without any further modification. Again, exporting to pdf affected the same images.

I suppose I could cut and scale with the GIMP, but that's a lot of work.

My solution to this issue was a Windows program called MWSnap, a nifty little screen shot program that not only does screen shots, but also can capture any selected area of your computer screen. So, I just captured the images on the affected slides from a copy of the odf file on a Windows computer with MWSnap and then pasted in the newly created bitmaps, replacing the original cropped versions. It ported to pdf perfectly.

Does anyone know of an MWSnap-like utility for Linux? Either that, or does someone know how to save an image in Open Office and remove all of the cropping information so that it ports over to pdf properly?

If you're using a Gnome-based system, such as Ubuntu, you already have one.

Applications ---> Accessories ---> Take Screenshot.

That will give you the option of choosing a particular area of the screen to capture to a file.

Printscreen to capture the full desktop. Alt+Printscreen to capture just the focused window.

5. Late to the party, but for anyone who ever has this problem with any program,

may I suggest cups pdf. I can print anything to PDF with no trouble at all, and my distribution even has a special build for it.
