Open-ended question re: prolonging SSD life by keeping some files in ramdisk

I am considering putting a small SSD in a netbook

I know I want to avoid unnecessary writes to the SSD to prolong its life, even with wear-levelling

The question is: to what extent can I accomplish that by using a ramdisk to handle some files?

Would it be enough to use ramdisk for tmp files? What other files (like browser cache files) might I reasonably worry about?

2. After playing with a couple of SSD's

I've come to the conclusion that they're best suited for specific purpose and embedded computers. While they do boot faster that a regular drive, I don't feel the need for speed. My windows machine booted up in 18 seconds from power on to full desktop. With a regular drive it booted in 30 seconds. Of course I tweak my Windows settings and remove as much as possible from the startup.
