Question about 'Apache'

I'm trying to move my blog and in my research I came across "Wordpress" which I really like, and they recommend 'Apache' to host my blog.
Is it as great as it sounds?Anything I should know before I download it?
Is it user friendly,cause I'm not that bright when it comes to all that tech stuff?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

1. It is what I would use, but I would expect to spend a good deal of

time learning to make it obey, or else to find someone who
has the necessary expertise. I doubt that it is what you
would consider "user friendly". Perhaps someone with more
experience with it than I will chip in.

3. I would expect they make it as accessible as they can.

It's just that there are some parts, like in brain surgery,
where you don't want things simplified. You might consider
looking around for pre-configured distributions, or notes,
or something like that. Good luck either way.

4. I checked around a little more

and I've come to the conclusion that this is waaaaay over my head.I do give detailed instructions on configurations etc,they even tell you what to type,troubleshoot for different applications.It's great!The only problem is ME,I simply don't have the knowledge.
I thought there might be a place where I could just download what I need and be done with it.
So,I let it go for now,but I will surely come back to it,as soon as I have learned what I need.

5. One other thing ...

In recommending using Apache to host your blog, the
matter may be as simple as finding a webhosting service
that uses Apache. Your blog would still be the same old
HTML-XML etc. as would have been otherwise.

If you plan to run your own host on the web this would not
apply of course.

6. Apache is not that bad.

Grab O'Reilly Apache: The Definitive Guide. They'll walk you through it step-by-step. You'll have Apache up and running the first evening. The rest is incremental stuff which you can learn in an "as needed" basis.

Apache is not that bad. (Try Sendmail some day.)

Actually, if you use M4 macros, Sendmail is easy and works very, very well.

8. You wouldn't be running Apache - your web host would...

From your question, you should know that you really don't have to know ANYTHING about apache - just find a host which has it (and mysql, eh?)

NOTE: they also list "The mod_rewrite Apache module" <-- I'm a webhost and I do NOT have this, so I should look specifically for webhosts which do...

12. Or, host yourself.

That's what I do. All you need is a static IP and a couple of bucks to register a domain. Then, throw Apache up on a box and point port 80 to that local IP.

14. Been using Apache on a server for about 3 years now

and have not problems. Of course, anything not hooked into Windows is OK. It just takes a while to get to understand the configuration file. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to run several domain names off of one IP address by making a few config file entries.

Don't know about the blog s/w you're using, but Apache is seamless with PHP and MySQL.
