Open Office
Edited on Thu Dec-15-05 12:29 AM by nadinbrzezinski
Ok just finished laying out my book on Open Office 2.0 and all I can say is... folks if you need a program that will do LIGHT DTP, let me tell you, this is one way to go. Yes the process was relatively pain free, or rather I am getting better at it. This is the second book I have laid out with OO... third if I count the LITE version of the game I wrote, which came at about 80 pages long. The Core book is 250 and it was fairly easy to get the PDF going.

I'd love to see Scribus for WIN, but until that day comes, this bidness owner running a game company on a string is VERY pleased with Open Office.

Oh and if you want to see what you can do, go to my site and download the LITE version of the game, which is actually more complex than the final layout, for I decided to go single column with the final layout.

1. Does OO.o 2 import and export .pdb files? I heard that it was going
to.

I don't have much use for an office suite, so I tend to stick to lighter ones like siag office, but it is good to hear that you are pleased with the process and results. For major layout work I tend to use LyX - Scribus for small things like pamphlets and CD lables (I know it can do much more, that just happens to be the way I use it)

4. You can save as to .pdb .xml and .psw
as well as open them.

also, which is pretty handy, you can directly open the kodak image files from those CD's too.

pretty nice piece of work.
