Posting officially from my Linux (suse) box
got the CDs at Fryes, since Iam totally a newbie and was leary of anything that would not give me a double boot option. (Yes I do have a couple proggies here that don't play well with Linux, and I need them for work. So from time to time this laptop needs to go to windows)

Two things:

I have found this to be far more stable

I have found this to be somewhat faster...

One MAJOR gripe, cannot get the Intous tablet or the Tablet PC to work... oh well not all is heaven. That said, I am using Corel Painter IX on the other machine anyway.

Oh and if I could only get WINE to play well wtih this machine....

1. Congrats!

It's always satisfying when something works. The first time I got DVDs and MP3s functioning and an imbedded media player working with my browser I felt like taking myself out for a celebration dinner. :-)

Wish I could help you with your hardware problem. I have no experience with tablets and so wouldn't know where to begin.

As for wine, I've had a lot of trouble with it myself and have mostly abandoned messing with it. I got notepad to work, which is where a lot of tutorials suggest you start, but I didn't go beyond that. There's a specialized branch of it for use with games, and I've been able to get it to work fairly well with some games. Others seem hopeless, so I maintain a drive with Windoze on it for the times I want to play those games.

Anyway, congrats again.

2. have you tried the manufacturers' website for Linux drivers?
or is there a USB socket on your graphics tablets perhaps.

btw what version of Suse is it? I have Suse v10/ Win2k on a dual boot myself.

4. Hi Nadine.

I've been using Linux exclusively for over a decade. I now have a network of six machines running it 24/7. If you need help don't be afraid to PM me. I'd be more than happy to help you out.

The problem with Tablet PCs and such is that Linux has effectively *zero* support from the PC manufacturers. This is in spite of the fact that the entire Internet basically runs on Linux (or BSD) machines. So Linux developers have to reverse engineer things when the manufacturers don't want to share the information necessary to write drivers for Tablet PCs, etc.

If one knows that they're going to run Linux, one has to be careful selecting a computer which will be supported. That's why I build all my own computers. That way I get to select things. But laptops, tablets, and such are always a problem.

You made a good choice with SuSE. I used to run it and liked it a lot, but have since moved on to more geekier distributions. Currently I have Gentoo, Debian, and one very old Red Hat machine.

Let me know if I can be of assistance.
