Adams vs Jeffereson
The tumultuous Election of 1800 by John Freling

I'm trying to decide which book to order from the History Book club and I'm considering this one.

It's a fasinating subject I think and I've already read a lot about it in other books but nothing that has been centered on the subject like this one.

Has anyone read this? Opinions?

1. It was the most interesting election we've ever had
With all due respect to 2000.

I'm currently reading "Thomas Jefferson and the new nation" by Peterson. I'm eagerly looking forward to the sections on his vice presidency and subsequent election to the presidency, but I'm only up to his time as governor of Virginia.

I'll have to look into that Freling book.

2. I'd vote for 1876
But 1800 was insane as well.

6. 1876 is the all time fucked up election.
Never has there been a more overt theft of an election than 1876.

4. I haven't read that one yet...
but I thoroughly enjoyed Ferling's biography of John Adams. He's a good writer and he is very locked into that time period. Sounds like a fine proposition to me!

5. You know, we like to think of the 20th century as pot-boiling
but it was boring compared with the 19th in the US.

Election fraud, division, schism, war, war, war, civil war, war, war, genocide, greed, constitutional abrogations are just a start of the problems.

Of course, we also had genius, inguenity, progress (for chosen ones), increasing stability, etc.

never really thought of it long-term before.
