Why does my laptop go into hibernation just moments after I unplug it?

1. power management schemes

most laptops are configured with a variety of power managment schemes ... you may be able to locate them by finding some type of battery icon (when unplugged) in the system tray (i.e. the icons near the clock) ...

choosing maximum battery life might cause the laptop to go into hibernate mode if their are no keystrokes or mouse clicks over some very short period of time ...

you may want to find this setting and adjust it to be a little less battery focused ...

2. Look for Power Options in the control panel

that should let you adjust when the monitor turns off, when the hard drive turns off, if you let the computer go into hibernation (something I usually find to be a PITA)
