I've got a cheapie digital cam, and I'm going to upgrade, when I delete the files for the old camers will it take the folder where my photos are, or will it be left alone?

Just copy the photos to a new folder on your drive. When you uninstall the old camera's software you can then delete the original files if it leaves them behind. If it deletes them then you still have your spare copies.
