I bought an HP Pavilion laptop from Ebay. The OS is XP Pro, but I think it's a bootlegged version because when I tried to install SP2, it refused to do it. Anyway, I am trying to update the USB host controller driver(s) to enable USB 2.0 - which isn't natively supported by XP. I found a USB 2.0 driver upgrade file that Intel distributed before Micro$oft made it SP-exclusive only. I can't figure out how to get the driver updated, though. Has anyone updated these drivers using the Intel download and not a MS SP? I right-click the "my computer" and select "manage" then "Universal Serial Bus controllers", which then provides a number of selections that can be updated by right clicking. The Intel driver upgrade is sitting on my desktop, but when I try to upgrade the driver and select the folder, it doesn't update. The upgrade is unzipped and everything. If anyone can help out with this annoying issue I would be so grateful! Thanks.
