1. Caution
that is a Beta release. And may have bugs. It's better to wait for the final release.

3. No ...

Your extensions will still be there but will be disabled. As long as those extensions are valid for use with 1.0+, they will still work when you enable them.

Settings is another matter. Things you have changed manually via about:config may or may not remain the same, which is why I suggest the use of a user.js file. Any settings you place in this file will be automatically loaded in subsequent installations.

FWIW, this is not a beta as such. There will be no other release version of 1.0.1. It is nothing but a maintenance release that addresses serious security issues that have arisen and/or been addressed since the release of 1.0. It does not include any of the work that has been done on Firefox since 1.0 aside from these security fixes.

Mozilla doesn't do betas as we think of them. They have trunk, branch, and aviary builds and then milestone releases. (They do issue release candidates, which is closer to what we might call a beta.) The next milestone, 1.1, will likely not be out until the summer, but there may be a 1.0.2 and so on if anything critical arises that needs immediate attention.

I agree Mozilla doesn't do beta's as we think of them. I was trying to warn people to not jump on the NEW release because it's really not a new release and it has many bugs. If anyone wants to read more about it.

5. Absolutely ...

I only mentioned the bit about beta versions because of the subsequent reply. Your warning was right on target, especially in this context. This isn't a "new" Firefox exactly. It just incorporates a few fixes that were deemed critical.

The 1.0.1 version does seem to be giving people some problems, especially with installation. There's some casual talk of a 1.0.2 version in the near future that addresses this.

For now, I'm just sticking 1.0, and I have the IDN exploit temporarily solved via a method mention previously.
