Okay, so I bought a Western Digital Essentials 640 GB Extrenal Hard Drive about a week ago - mainly to babysit some files and programs in anticipation of getting a new/used computer.
Old computer is a PC running XP. New computer will be a Power Mac G5.
Anyway, I plug in the HD and transfer a bunch of things to it, it works fine (with the exception that it seemed to hibernate whenever the PC did, and would take a while to wake back up) Now, all of a sudden, my computer won't recognize it. It shows up under Device Manager as an unkown USB device and wants me to re-install drivers...which I've tried and doesn't work. I've googled the problem and find lots about re-assiging it a letter under disk management, but it doesn't show up there. Other USB devices (i.e. memory sticks) show up immediately.
I was transferring and accessing documents to the external HD literally less than 24 hours ago.
I am waiting on a power cord for the Mac, so I can't plug it in there and see if it works.
The hard drive DIDN'T read on my XP-running laptop either, but the laptop is crap and I didn't think much of it. But maybe if there's a fix it would work on the laptop too...?
Anyone have any ideas?
