Power supply replacement

Hi all,

I think my power supply needs to be replaced. It's an Antec 300 watt but I don't see they make that wattage anymore. Would I be safe with a higher wattage? Or, perhaps a better question, what should I do? Thanks.

1. You will be fine with a higher wattage.

But you can still get a 300 watt if you like. Why pay for more than you will use? Unless you are planning an upgrade in the future.

One note. While I recommend buying quality parts in any case, a good power supply is key imo. I've used many of the companies of price watch for years with no problems, but I don't skimp on my PS.

2. Check over at NewEgg.

Pay attention to thing like:

Does it have a second motherboard connector? Is it 4, 6 or 8 pin?

How many pins does the big primary connector have?

How many amps does it have on the 12v+ rail? Is it enough for your computer?

Does it have connectors like for SATA drives or Video cards?

2 fans good. less fans, not so much.

Blue lights does not a good power supply make. Necessarily.

I had gone directly to Antec's site and didn't see a 300 anywhere.

I want to keep my 'puter as long as possible - I had it built with years and years in mind.

Good to know I won't blow anything out if I get a bigger watt.

8. I highly recommend...

The Rosewill power supplies. One of their 450-500 watters with the correct pin configurations will cover you nicely. I have used them a lot on budget builds and have been well served by them.
