A saunter down Memory Lane ... my renovated 1993 website. (One of the first on the web.)
I've finally gotten around to renovating (NOT remodeling) my first web site from back in the days when almost nobody knew what the "web" was ... and the AOL stampede was first raising dust. (Yes ... even as a Sr. Research Scientist in IT I used AOL ... and regard effete attitudes as simple-minded manure.)

The renovation is nearing completion. I still have to find an up-to-date destination for biographic data, and the 'musical experiences' deserve a bit more tweaking.

I tried to design an "experience" (getting to know you stuff) more than a left-brain vanity thing. In a sense, it's the Anti-Professional 'resume' site.

Let me know what y'all think, OK?

It's at http://www.tahitinut.com (which is also noted in my profile) ... where I find that FatCow is a reasonable hosting service. (I might have more to say about them after I get some time using them.)

Thanks!

2. The TahitiNut Historical Preservation Project!
I'm glad you didn't change it, TN. I really like seeing those bits of DIY exuberance from the early days still around. It always gives me a smile, like coming across a well-maintained piece of Googie on the road.

And I'll echo W_Z, your site definitely reflects your swingin' groove :hi:

3. (grin) Yup. That's about it. It's like old vinyl ... just working on preserving it ...

... is a form of time travel. I'm trying to be careful to preserve the "period architecture" and not use the more up-to-date HTML tools. So far, for example, the background music is all MIDI. (I'm really strongly-inclined to use an MP3 or two, though.) The design "philosophy" was top-down(-and-out) and back-button, without a site link map or overt jump-to-anywhere. It's a bit like an "advent calendar" ... just look behind the pictures. (It's hard to explain how site design was far from being a settled approach in those days.)

(None of this is to imply I think this little, simple site has any grandeur or significance ... except in my own personal history. The most challenging thing for me was to get Tinker Bell to fly using the then-current state-of-the-art.))

Thanks.
:hi:

4. Love it!
Like taking a time machine back to the 90s and the early days of the web. How I long for the days of the rainbow horizontal rule.

5. As an aside (and your website rules!)
Way back when, I was one of the first 10,000 users on AOL. That may not seem like much, but when you consider the fact that they've had over 100,000,000 (that's a hundred million) registered accounts, it's pretty impressive. Back then, I had to call a long distance number to connect the 28K modem to my awesome dial-up connection. It only took a couple of years (and many, many heated "discussions" with AOL customer "service" reps) to realize what a piece of garbage it was. I think that AOL was truly the first widespread internet virus.

BTW, I dig the retro-website! It takes me back to the days of scripting HTML pages using the Windows Notepad text editor, mapping out the pages on a whiteboard, and adding in cool (back then) midi music, flashing colors, and the last refuge of early web developers, the marquee. Happily, I see all those on your site.

For giggles, submit your site to Web Pages That Suck (http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/). A link from them really drives traffic to your site. People may ridicule it for its old-fashioned flavor, but I think it would be a badge of honor, that you could put on your home page (something like "Winner, May 2009's Worst Web Site from www.webpagesthatsuck.com) with a cheesy picture of a trophy.

Thanks for the good times!
