it was all clean, the msconfig start menue had about 6 things on it. Now after the last re-format there are the old 25-30 of them. And the programs under "services" are about 30!, most of them running.

The computer is slow and I have not been able to get my files back onto it, (but that doesn't matter right now). And all of a sudden my friggin cursor is jumping around again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. I hope someone with information answers this one.
I remember being told with an old computer that there might be a virus on the boot disk that allowed a virus to return after a reformat. I don't know about old files.

Good luck. Have you tried posting at a computer tech website?

2. Maraya, this is an HP computer, right?
And if memory serves, you either made the discs or used HP recovery partition? Is it a desktop or a laptop?

In the msconfig startup tab, you could probably disable just about everything, reboot the computer and see how you go. HP loads a lot of crap that you don't need to have running all the time.

As far as the running processes - 30 would not worry me at all (assuming you have got this info from the Processes tab in Task Manager). I'd be worried when I see 50 -60 running processes.

As far as the virus problem - are you sure you did a full reformat and re-install and not just a repair?
