I think I need to install my router. It is wired. I have att u verse with
tv. And 1.5 speed on the internets.
Do I plug the router into the line, then the box for u verse? Or the u verse box first. I think the u verse installer said the u verse box first.
The router is a Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall.
I intend to use this for firewall. Not for multi pcs.
Any special ideas? I mean, like how to install it, not install it, what use it will be, etc.
Thanks
dc

2. u-verse first then your router behind it.
I believe the u-verse router has a decent firewall built in. This is a little help.

http://www.sbbala.com/uverse/ Is this the uverse router you use? 3800HGV-B. i looked at the manual and it seems fairly feature rich. What is the issue that makes you want to use another router?

3. I think I will get zone alarm for the laptop. Yes, that's the
u verse router. I have never had the netgear running on u verse. I had sbc before and that was where I was using it. As a firewall.
As to issues, I don't really know. It's like getting a car alarm. You don't really know what it is you are alarming against, maybe a number of things, like theft, from the car, of the car, or vandalism, etc.
I know less about computers.
Also you say the router behind. Upstream? Or downstream?

4. IMO, the best protection an addtional router is going to give you is an unroutable address
if you go to a command prompt in your current setup and type ipconfig and enter it'll tell you your IP address. if it starts 10.10 or 192.168 you aren't going to gain much by adding another router into the mix. You will, however be adding an extra router hop.

5. Change the password and write it on the case.

They come with a default password. If you don't change it you
could possibly find yourself locked out of your own router.
