Microsoft finally open sources Windows 7 tool

Microsoft has finally open sourced its Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, which it pulled from its servers over reports that it violated the GNU General Public License (GPL).
By Emil Protalinski | Last updated December 9, 2009 7:15 PM

Microsoft has open sourced the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool (WUDT) by releasing it under the GPLv2 license. The code is now available on CodePlex, Microsoft's Open Source software project hosting repository, over at wudt.codeplex.com. The actual installer for the tool is now again available for download at the Microsoft Store (2.59MB).

1. only because they were forced to...
Microsoft is a cancer that attaches itself in an intellectual property sense to everything it touches. (paraphrasing Steve Balmer)

2. Seriously
He was right. fanboyism is a cancer that should have been eradicated at all costs. Linux, Apple and Novell. 3 entities that have chosen different paths to their relationships with the NUMBER ONE PROVIDER of systems in the world. 1 of those companies is actually having success in the desktop and server market. The other 2 go on their merry way with closed minds and closed sources. And they remain for the most part stagnant. But worry not, you have the slogans down and you should could be the next CEO of Redhat or Apple guaranteeing many more years of mediocre technological development.
