I'm being stalked by advertizers

I've been xmas shopping online, in the course of which I looked at some jewelry at Overstock.com. This evening I checked out a blog I sometimes visit, and lo and behold, there I found a jewelry ad from overstock.com. This is clearly not a coincidence. What's going on? More to the point, what are the larger implications of what's going on? Can we have any expectation of privacy or confidentiality in our net presence?

3. I downloaded the "free"version of ccleaner

and it analyzed my hard drive, but refused to clear the garbage unless I paid up. I occasionally pay for "freeware" but I don't like to be strongarmed. I cleared out the junk with my browser. Anyway, thanks for the tip.

8. When I clicked on download

I was redirected to a PCtools product, which I mindlessly downloaded. I hate it when that happens. It's a completely unscrupulous bit of sleight of hand. I scrubbed that toad and downloaded the true ccleaner. It seems to work as advertized. Thanks.

2. Overstock.com got me so mad at them for just that reason.

I bought something from them and started getting tons of e-mail junk from them. I un-subscribed to their e-mailing list. Just still kept coming. I finally put them on my "block sender" list. No problem since. Their loss. Electronic overkill makes me angry and I do what I can to stop it. Their loss. I'm not a big shopper but I certainly can find some other on-line retailer who will not bury me with their electronic junk.

4. Deleting my browsing history

solved the problem. I ended up buying what I wanted at Costco.com.

7. Clearing History does very little to protect you. You need to clear cookies.
