I have a technical question

As some of you may know, my husband passed away three weeks ago. I have a computer, a Fujitsu Life Book, that he had password protected. I've looked everywhere for his password but I can't find it anywhere. Does anybody know if it is possible to override the password?

1. First question

Does it ask for a password when it first boots, or after Windows starts?

These are two different things and one fix won't fix the other.

If it's in the initial BIOS sequence you may have to contact the manufacturer's website to find out how to remove it.

If it's a Windows password there are several ways to bypass it.

3. I'm not familiar with the lifebook

Would it be difficult to get inside the computer? I imagine if you could remove the CMOS battery for a bit (maybe overnight?), that would reset the BIOS.

5. Your objective at this point is to secure the Hard Drive or the new smartcard drive.

Before you send the notebook back to the manufactures talk with someone local or family that you trust, and can remove the drive and connect it to another computer via an external adapter.

See if the data files can be read and are not encrypted. If encrypted you will need the password key to un encrypt. This may not be possible at all.

Get assurance from manufacture or any who will work on the notebook that data will not be destroyed. Ask them to make a clone of drive before any operation is done on the notebook.
