Do I need both these....microsoft security essentials AND Norton 360???

just curious, heard about the microsoft security essentials and my Norton 360 will run out in April.....and I wonder if I need both for protection. :shrug: Thank you.

1. Norton's about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

Nothing would almost be better than Norton. Try AVG or Avast or most any other good antivirus app.
90% of the infected computers I work on have Norton-for what good it did them.

2. MSE is a full antivirus suite and good replacement for Norton, also rated as good as Avast and AVG.

and, as someone else posted, it is free and rates as good as many of the other anti virus programs. I also run Malwarebytes manually every few days.

6. They pay the manufactures to load it on new PC's or laptops. Problem starts at trying to get people

to renew for pay at the end of a yr. Virus writers then target outdated machines with old Norton software.

Support people were clueless, and would make sugestions that were not helpful.

One of them didn't know that a person could opt to have a CD or DVD with the program sent in the mail for the customer's use.

Another didn't know really simple things about the program. (And of course they are supposed to be the experts.)

If the folks writing their code are as inept as the people manning the customer service phone lines, then I can understand why security experts have made fun of Norton for years.

5. Please, please, please uninstall Norton

Norton itself is almost as bad as a virus, and they blackmail people into giving them money every year for a "subscription". I've been using Avast (free), Malwarebytes (free) for years and haven't had a single virus.

I've heard good things bout MSE, but I've never used it, so I can't provide any recommendation, positive or negative, about it.

15. There's a lot of crapware on commercial computers these days

The sellers of this crapware pay the computer manufacturers to include this crap on their systems so it kinda offsets the Windows Tax. But the first thing I always do is clean all that crap off my system before I start using it.

13. You can only have 1 antivirus software on your machine at a time. You can have several antispyware

programs. This causes confusion so it is up to the user to learn how to seperate them. Antivirus software runs at the most basic layer of the computer. There is only one place for it to run. If you try to put 2 programs in this space they cancel each other out and will cause random error and could make your computer unuseable.

No MSE and AVG cannot be on same machine.

I don't recall. But I have seen a lot of complaints about AVG version 9 for being bloated, and slowing down processing from prior releases of AVG.
