1. Have one of those"won't load" updates too.
After trying to update, I get the message: The following update was not installed;

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5.
(KB951847) x86.

After no success, I
to MS website and I can't make heads or tails out the it.

I am also getting a new issue.

Stack error Line 0 Yesterday it was...
Stack error Line 32

I do try to figure out these things on my own but the tutorials are beyond my understanding. They assume you know what the heck they are talking about. Not this old lady.

Ran Ccleaner and Revo today...went for broke.

7. Tried again, no go. Tomorrow I'll try another route.
This is getting to be a pain. There seems to be this first update, then several others that will not install until the first one is complete.

I'm out of my league here. If I try the un-install .NET as another poster suggests and it goes wrong, I'm toast.

4. I still have the little yellow update shield telling me I need to update.
Tomorrow I will try again. It is 92 degrees in my house today with thunder storms about to roll in.

I will try again in the AM to update and will let you know.

I tried to do the update several times recently and it would never work. I did it today directly from the MS site. Still zilch.

We'll see that tomorrow brings.

10. Hi plcdude, what did you do to resolve the .NET issue?
Tomorrow I think I'm going to un-install all .NET and go for broke. I'm still fighting with this update. Today makes 8 attempts at downloading. I've had it. From what people are telling me and from what I have read, I really don't need it, plus I cannot do any other updates because this one blocks the others. I've Googled everything I can find and according those in the know here on DU and CNET and elsewhere, I can do without anything .NET. Gotta love it!!!

5. I get 'em occaisionally, too.
For whatever reason, I've had some fail on downloading/installing for weeks...then, suddenly, it installs properly. I assume it might be some kind of system hardware/software conflict that gets resolved with another MS update.

6. The .NET updates in particular are notoriously flaky.
A tech with Microsoft told me a secret: every .NET update basically uninstalls then reinstalls the .NET subsystem. Sometimes it gets bogged down with the uninstall, or the uninstall isn't clean, and so the install finds something it didn't expect and fails.

First, get this tool and run it to remove all .NET items on your system:
http://www.aboutonlinetips.com/repair-remove-and-uninstall-net-framework/

Reboot, then go into Windows Update and scan for updates. You might have better luck.

11. Do you have the recovery discs that came with your computer.
I had similar problems with two of my old computers and luckily I still had the recovery discs, put them in the drive and they erased everything off the hard drive and copied it back just like it came from the factory and I had to start over from scratch, but it saved my computer and solved the problem!
