Getting piss poor speed from my DSL. It's supposed to be
3.0, but I haven't seen that much for a long time. Speedtest.net shows it getting worse as time goes on.

Everything on this side of the wall has been checked out, connections, wires and equipment. I've taken the router out of the line, but I get the same results, so it isn't the router. I get the same pitiful speeds on my iPad. I have no trojan horses, or other such critters according to my AV. My ISP shows strong signal and a full 3.0, but that isn't translating to what I see here. Here is the scan I took an hour ago.

Pitiful. They have been working on this for weeks, still no resolution.

3. 3.0 is plenty fast for what I do, but now...
It has improved now that people are going to bed readying themselves for school/work.

One tech said it is a bandwidth issue, and that could be right because school was out today and around 10 am my speed went south and just now improving.

5. My speed is back up to normal. I'm pretty much convinced
that there's just too many connections.

Today school was out due to the snow and cold, I bet that is why it was bad all day. Usually speeds are OK from morning until the evening.

One tech mentioned a broadband card. Another talked of bandwidth issues. Should that take weeks to fix?

6. Sounds like there's way to many people sharing.....
My Cable service from brighthouse is 49 bucks but it's well worth the non-aggravation. :)

19. Your DSL line is not shared at all. It's a single subscription line
that means there is a problem with the connection (probably weather-related) that needs to have a tech recheck the line to make sure you get the quality you need.

12. I think they fixed it. Usually at this time the ping times
are above 200ms, now they are down around 35ms.

8. It's them, not you
sounds like they need to upgrade their lines and equipment.

My DSL stays pretty constant at 2.5-2.6 mbps. The small print always says "up to"

9. As the night went on, it got slower until it stopped.
It's back up and running. They have my issues "solved" as of 12-12-2010, but "solved" seems to mean worse. My wife is now lobbying me to move to cable, but they keep raising rates, whereas my DSL has a lifetime price guarantee.

10. Believe me....Cable is about $1.40 a day but after you've had the pleasure of instantaneous ...
...access to the web , there's nothing like it.
I can download HUGE files in a very short time ..plus...the speed stays about the same, morning, noon and night.
I gave up a few treats for it but....

11. Ten mgs costs $39 for cable here. 3mgs DSL costs $25, and
I get a land line phone for incoming calls and 911.

Of course with both, you have all those little extra fees and taxes that nearly doubles the cost.

13. My 3mbps DSL is $30
Cable here is $49.95 for 7mbps and I'd have to put with Time-Warner.

14. Our cable is too expensive. I wish we could have had the
ala carte bill pass in congress. As it is now we have to pay out the ass for channels we don't want, just to get one channel we do want.

BTW, my DSL is fixed and running well. The tech was sympathetic and friendly. We had a good conversation about UNIX/Linux. We both agreed that Apple was smart to go UNIX.

15. the problem with a la carte
is that the specialty "boutique" channels would die on the vine. They wouldn't get enough subscribers to keep them going.

I don't want cable to become even more of a wasteland whose content is dictated by the lowest common denominator.

16. We are paying $100 a month, just to get HBO. There is
no competition in our town.

20. just HBO?
That's rough.

FWIW, there's rarely any competition anywhere beyond Dish/DirecTV/cable. I can't recall I time I've ever lived somewhere with two cable companies vying for my business.

21. You have to step up the ladder of options to get to the
HBO package. Now residents have to have a special box that will eventually cost them. Customers used to be able to run their cable directly to the TV, now they need the box.
