Is there any way to keep my email address if I leave Comcast?

I am so disgusted with Comcast, especially with this MSNBC merger. Signed up with them many years ago, ignorant of their political bent. But I feel chained to them because of my comcast.net email address. Obviously I could tell friends and family about an address change, but I have a lot of other people over the years that I wouldn't want to bother with such a notification, including business contacts, but who I would nonetheless want to be able to reach me. Is there any workaround to drop comcast but keep that email address, like you can keep your phone # when you change providers?

They will forward your emails to your new address for a period of time (weeks, months?) but not indefinitely. It's probably best to set up a web-based email account (such as Gmail) and let everyone you know of the change before dropping Comcast. A major advantage of a web-based email account is that it's completely independent of your Internet provider.

4. There might be a way to keep it for a small monthly fee.

I can do that with my own provider, and did for awhile when I was not using them for anything else. That way after you set up your new address you can still keep checking your old one and tell everyone over a period of time that you want to know about your new email address. You will want to have time to forward all your saved messages that you didn't want to just dump to your new email address. I recently did all this so I am not going to have any trouble dumping my provider's email address whenever I decide to switch services.

If you've had the same email address for years, like I had, it is the only way to do it. It's worth the trouble!

At least, start the new email address and forward the stuff you want, and soon the job will be half done.
