Facebook Is Tracking Your Every Move on the Web; Here’s How to Stop It

Over the weekend, Dave Winer wrote an article at Scripting.com explaining how Facebook keeps track of where you are on the web after logging in without your consent. Nik Cubrilovic dug a little deeper, and discovered that Facebook can still track where you are, even if you log out. Facebook, for its part, has denied the claims. Regardless of who you believe, here's how to protect yourself, and keep your browsing history to yourself.

The whole issue has stirred up a lot of debate in privacy circles over the past few days. Here's what the fuss is about, and what you can do to protect your privacy if you're worried.

Hasn't Zuckerberg stated that any notion of "privacy" is old-fashioned, outmoded, and obsolete?

I'm glad I've never been tempted to join up with that online fiefdom. The internet-at-large is dangerous enough, without handing over your house keys to a feudal lord.

If I ever felt the need to interact on FB, for business or charity reasons, I would use a dedicated machine, or at least a dedicated partition.

And I'm not feeling real good about Google these days either.

The lines on the ground that look like an upside-down jelly fish, amoeba or the FSM are an ancient hunting technique called a 'kite' and would have been stone walls about 3ft high. Animals were herded into the open gap between the three walls (top of pic) and driven down the funnel into the enclosure (bottom right). There they were easy pickings for hunters.

Google and Facebook are modern day kites and few people realise they are being herded into a corporate internet enclosure from which there is no escape.
