Burning to SVCD?

I am trying to burn a 462mb .mpg file on to a CD-R, using Nero Express, in the SVCD format.
Problem is that the file gets expanded, during the conversion, which adds 300mb and renders it too large to fit on a 700mb CD-R.

Any work around for this?
My goal is to burn this MPG on to a CDR or DVDR, which ever one will allow for viewing on my entertainment center's DVD player.

1. Well, sorta ...

You're going to need to recompress the original file and make it smaller, which means you're going to lose picture quality.

Alternately, you can use a program like DIKO to convert the MPG into SCVD format. This program allows you to set a maximum size of output, so it'll take care of all the details. Your picture quality will still suffer, but the process itself won't be as painful.

Note: DIKO has some quirks and can't deal with certain frame rates.

3. One thing to remember is that (S)VCDs don't use 1024 as the basis for

for their measurements. Generally, you can get up to "803" or so Mb on to a 700 Mb CD.
