video download & burn questions
i have been trying to download 'the power of nightmares' to copy to dvd. i had completed downloading it last week (it took HOURS!) and the files disappeared from my computer. the downloads had a .mpeg extension. i downloaded them again tonight and chapter 1 has since disappeared but chapters 2 and 3 are still on my hd. i have changed the extension from .mpeg to .mpg thinking that the 4 charater extension was why i might be losing the files.

can i get the original files back? i mean, they can't have self-deleted could they? how can i find them?

also, i bought an iomega 16x dvd writer (usb 2.0) and have tried to write 2 of the chapters to disk and was told that the files were too big. assuming this whole 3-part series should fit on one disk, what am i doing wrong?

the fastest i can write to disk using the program bundled with the dvd writer is 6x but it is taking forever for the disk to write . . . if it IS writing.

tia from a dvd novice.

1. To find files on hard drive
Edited on Sun Jun-19-05 01:58 AM by LiberalUprising
going to start> search> files and folders.

Type in filename and click search, if they are still on your hard drive they should show up here.

DVD 's should be encoded in mpeg 2 format, you may have to recode them, Nero 6 will do this for you automatically.

I downloaded Power of Nightmares using ABC bit torrent, you can download it here
http://pingpong-abc.sourceforge.net /

Then get the torrent files here
http://www.chomskytorrents.org/Torrents.php

You will have to reduce the file size to fit on a DVD, I use Nero 6 and it reduces file size automatically to fit a single layer 4.7 gig disc.

I had to burn parts 1 & 2 on one DVD and put the third part on another.

What burning program are you using?

3. I had a problem with it too
I downloaded the mpegs and my software said it was in an incompatible format{?). None of my conversion and authoring programs would do anything with it and when I scanned the files, there was the intro for 30 seconds and then a white screen with voice-over for the rest of it.
I finally downloaded the files as .AVI and everything worked fine.
