best place to blog?
okay, i have to admit i was savvy and cool before the blogging phenomenon. now, i read blogs every day but i don't know much about the techincal details.

but! i do have an undertaking i want to blog. where do i look for a place to start with my beginner blog? cheap is good. free is even better! ;-) i like to have a clue before i invest even a little bit o' $.

note: blog will not be political, if that is relevant.

1. Look into this one, it's what we use
http://b2evolution.net/

b2evolution is probably the most comprehensive blog engine you can find!

It includes almost any feature you could expect from a blog tool, and more ! Check out the features, not to mention third party plug-ins!

Plus, it's free (instant download), it's open-source (GPL), it runs virtually anywhere (PHP/mySQL) and it's available in many languages!

2. If you don't want to worry about setup, installation, etc.
and just want to get started blogging, I suggest BlogSpirit.com, whose free service has the most features by far when I last compared it with other free blog services.

LiveJournal.com is also decent and you can upgrade to paying later ($25 a year I think) for more features.

Yahoo had a recent summary also:
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ttpcworld/20050630/tc_techtues_pcworld/121664&cid=1740&ncid=1729
But the only ones there I would recommend are TypePad ($5 a month) and LiveJournal.

3. blogger.com is free and like typing an MSWord document.
Most of the early bugs have been worked out, and they even upload and host your pics now. You just click on the picture icon in the editing toolbar, and then browse your computer files for the pic you want to insert... and you can make the text wrap (or not) around the pic any way you want in your blog post.

I suggest that you go to blogger.com, click on Create A Blog, and follow the simple directions.

If you don't like what you see, you can either delete the blog or tweak the template.

For code help, I suggest webmonkey.com.

Good luck!

Be sure to introduce your blog in the DU bloggers group and PM me (I write the DU Blog Box column).
