Can anyone assist with a wireless networking issue?

I have a new laptop, and it connects to the wireless router, but I get a message that I have little or no connectivity. I can't seem to figure out what the damned deal is. Anyone got any ideas?

1. Sounds like the router is not getting connected to your ISP.

Perhaps more detail on the situation would help.
What sort of computer, running which OS, with what sort of
internet connection, would be a good start. Plus any
specific messages you are seeing.

2. OK, I'm running an XP laptop, cable modem.

My desktop is connected through the router, but not wireless. It's connected through a regular ethernet card. I can also get the laptop to connect through its ethernet card as well.

WHen I pull up the wireless connection status, is shows a strong signal, but limited or no connectivity.

5. open a command window on your laptop ...

type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) and copy all the output and post it up here.

9. Ah

the 169 in your IP is a dead giveaway.

Your laptop is finding the router fine, but your router isn't coughing up an IP address for it. Check the Manual of the router to make sure that it's set to assign IP addresses DHCP is turned on over both the wired and wireless networks.

10. I think it was the security settings. I disabled them, and it fired up.
