XP is so slow relatively it is amazing!

Plus the user interface (using Gnome) is better than windows for logical setup with minimal repeat steps, all the while being as "windows" like as I'll ever need.

I Recommend it highly!

1. I had problems with Fedora ...

Didn't like the USB ports on my motherboard for some reason. I got it to work, but it took a bit of messing around. I have two different GNU/Linux installations at the moment, Fedora and SuSE, but I tend to use SuSE with some customized settings (such as GNOME) most of the time.

I do like GNOME. A friend keeps trying to sell me on KDE, but every time I start playing with it I find something about it that annoys me. GNOME is less complicated interface to my eye and not as cartoonish with its defaults.

Anyway ... Congrats!!!

3. Fedora boots up faster on the same hardware, compared to WinXP.
Quite surprising, actually.

Fedora had a few install probs but anyone with a brain can work those out.

4. If XP is slow and it works fine with Linux then XP has viruses,

spyware or both. To check this, Reboot in to Safe Mode and run your Spyware detection software from there. I don't think you can run most Antivirus in Safe Mode, so run the AV scan in normal Windows.
