Help, please, with saving mp3 files.

There's a discussion going on over in GD with a link to a kpfa radio interview. One poster said they had "saved the mp3 file". So, this must be possible.

I right clicked on the file and saved it to my HD.But when I try to open it when I'm offline it says it has to go to the internet to play it. I'm on dial-up and would like to save so I can listen offline, and maybe burn to a CD.

Here is the name of the file: gen-mpegurl.m3u . What does this tell you? Is there some kind of decoding software needed to actually play this?

Also, I just tried to go back and play the interview online and I get message, "Server redirected player to an invalid location." When I click on help button it says this is error: C00D2EEA.

Did I change some setting by mistake or are too many people trying to access that site?

I am running Windows XP. Appreciate any help.

M3u is an MP3 playlist file.

If its the "Listen Online/Vogg Orbis stream" streaming audio thing you'll need a stream-ripper.

You can't download the actual MP3 file because it is being streamed.

Do a search for "free stream ripper" and you should find what you need.

apologize for being so out of the loop and asking questions that are probably kindergarten level for most folks. It's the media issues that stump me. :eyes:

Someone on the other thread posted the direct link, ya' know, with the DNS # or something with an mp3 extension. That worked, and I was able to download (slooow) the audio file.

I'll look for the stream ripper. I'm starting a hard copy file. :)
