iTunes users on Windows machines... DO NOT UPGRADE TO 5.0
Sorry to be alarmist, but people have had major, major problems after attempting this update, including myself. For some examples, you can check out Apple's discussion forums:

1. Hmmm...I downloaded and installed it on Sept. 9 with no problems.
I'm running XP Pro (with all of the latest windows updates installed). I turned off my Norton anti-virus software before I installed iTunes 5.0, but I left it running during the download. I've used iTunes successfully to update my daughter's iPod Mini and my library is still intact. I feel lucky that I didn't have any problems. Go figure!

2. I did all that and it still nuked my library and refuses to dock my iPod
:grr: Fool me once, shame on you; foole me twice, shame on me ... and I can't count how many times my iTunes and iPod have fooled me. I love it when it works right, but it seems each update is less and less stable.

And, BTW, I think the new interface/skin is much clunkier looking than the old.

3. I'm so sorry to hear about your iTunes problems.
My daughter just got her iPod for her birthday in August so I haven't had iTunes on my computer for very long. Do you think because I only had the newest version before this update that I was lucky? I'm worried about future updates. I hate messing up my computer for things like this. I'm going to be very careful in the future before I update anything again. I jumped into this one completely unaware of the potential problems. Wow--I really feel lucky now. I do hope that you can sort out your computer. You have my sympathy.

4. TY :)
I usually wait for the next point release, but because I have a new computer I just assumed this was an older update that I was installing. I have to be more careful myself. :)
