My computer won't shut down when I hit Control, Alt, Delete. Whats up?
Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

It just brings up Task Manager, but it won't shut down.

1. Try control, alt, delete
a second time, if that doesn't work, press and hold the power button for 5 or 6 seconds

I finally pulled the power.

Im curious though why it won't shut down by control/alt/delete.

3. It is not supposed to shut down.
Bringing up the task Manager is what is suppose to happen. You shut the computer down from the Task Manager.

If this won't do it, either hold the power button in for 10 seconds or pull the power plug.

7. The "Shut Down" menu item would be a good place to start

8. Bring up Task Master, then
on the top where is says File Options View, etc...The 5th one over says Shut Down. When you click on that you get a drop down menu. select Shut Down or Restart.

10. The underlying cause is probably a Trojan or spy-ware program..
..running somewhere in your system files.
There are several ways to clean it but I don't know your "Computer-Savvy" Level..

11. In the future, it would help to share what OS you're running...
Others have told you it's the "Shut Down" button on your tast manager (assuming Windows 2000) - that was probably your answer.

Also: once your problem is solved, even if you solve it yourself, it would be nice for you to close the thread with that solution you found.

13. Need more info. Are you doing the three finger salute after your...
...Windows XP computer freezes, or after just one of the program locks up? Or is it after it goes to the Blue error screen?

With the "Blue screen of Death" you sometimes have to do the Crtl+Alt+Del several times, or just hit Reset.

14. Thanks U2L*** I think we've figured things out, at least as far
as the reboot issue.

I think I have a virus or Trojan or something though, but my Adaware isn't picking anything up.

15. Try Spy Sweeper, it's the best and Free to try for 30 days
<http://www.webroot.com/land/freescan.php?rc=266&ac=417&wt.srch=1&wt.mc_id=417>

I've used it for more than a year now.

Only thing that it's not getting right yet is the NEW threat......RootKit Viruses.

Be very careful if it says "Possible Root kit virus"
