To add to the above, if you're ever not just wanting but needing to delete a file from a CD, for example because you accidentally burned a compromising photo of yourself in the shower, don't just throw it away. Scratch, break it, and/or melt it (with proper ventilation). I know of people who go dumpster diving looking for tossed CDs and DVDs for this very reason. Rather sick individuals they are, but the "treasures" they come across often end up posted on binaries groups on the Usenet.
I'd personally extend that even further and just suggest destroying any CD (or hard drive) you find you no longer want or that has files on it you don't want archived on a portable medium. People also go dumpster diving or land fill hunting and can end up with people's entire life history, financial records, personal ID numbers, etc.
I know -- more than you wanted to know and pretty much off the main subject, but I decided to mention it because I'm something of a paranoid nit when it comes to these things. :-)
