If it happened in a movie, critics would call it contrived and maudlin.
When
it happened in real life, it was an emotional blockbuster.
The setting is Lamar Dixon Animal Shelter outside New Orleans, where
animals
pulled from the floods of Hurricane Katrina are being housed and cared
for.
A dog waits on canine Death Row; it has bitten a rescue worker, and in
the
crush of needy animals, rescuers must reluctantly euthanize aggressive
or
dangerous ones.
The Weimeraner is minutes away from being killed. Suddenly, the woman
who
owns the dog, and has been searching for it desperately, bursts in to
claim
it at the 11th hour.
