Harness Training Jesse (Pics)
Edited on Sun Sep-25-05 06:30 PM by newsguyatl
well, i figured i'd give it a shot... this fella, unlike his brother nikko, isn't afraid of anything! (except the vaccum)...

this was his first excursion outside, and he took to the harness like a pro!

tail straight up in the air the whole time.

of course, he DID have his moments:

and he was very well behaved, of course, until he found all the shrubs and greenery, then he'd have nothing to do with the sidewalk:

but when i took him closer to the cars which were on the other side of the fence, he got scared and had to hop in dad's arms:

overall, great experience, and i highly recommend it to any who don't already do it... he seems decidely more energetic, and i daresay happier, now that he's gone on his first walk...

now if i could only get nikko to do it:

fat chance of THAT happenin' anytime soon ;-)

1. He'll get past the car thing after a few walks
he's already taking to it faster than Puck did! It took her three or four walkies to display this posture on a regular basis:

Now she MUST have her walk every day between 6-8pm. We follow a regular route around the neighborhood, with stops along the way for lizard chasing ( she only ever caught one);

It seems that certain breeds take to it better than others; oriental (like Jesse), Middle eastern (like Puck) and Ragdolls and Ragamuffins do well on leashes, but it's a little more rare to find a regular American domestic shorthair who will tolerate a harness without lots of "practice".

Great pics, BTW!

3. Hey, I WISH she were still afraid of cars now!
She'll step into the street when a laden truck comes roaring up the road (which makes a helluva noise, since the road is brick). I don't think she'd last long on her own out there. :-(

Be prepared; Jesse will soon be herding you toward the front door, standing near where his harness is stored going "Urr...urrr..URRR"!!

;-)

4. How beautiful he is now!
So much easier than Pad Thai. Yes I'm sure you'll have loads of fun. But expect him to demand his walk. Pad Thai does rather vocally on a regular basis. So get used to the Siamese talk!!!

What kind of harness is that? It looks like a good one.

(Obligatory picture of Paddy on leash, of course)

9. Since we moved to Lake Ridge, Virginia
We've all enjoyed the pretty trees and grass around our area. Although the commute to Arlington (close to DC) every day is a hassle, to come home here to a nice green place really lifts my spirits. As for Lily, it's made a new cat of her.

7. why thanks!
yes, he's technically been outside, meaning i've held him and taken him outdoors, but to run around, no.

i live in downtown atlanta, so i could never just let him go without a harness... so this was his first time outside, with a harness, and roaming around.

14. Nikko is doing more important things
Edited on Tue Sep-27-05 09:56 AM by calico1
obviously. LOL. Now your other boy, wow! I wish mine would take the the harnesses. I have tried and I feel like I am trying to tame lions. He looks so cute on the leash. I know there are cats who take to it. You are lucky. They are both cuties!

Edit to add--when I posted I had not seen the pictures of the other kitties on leashes! What cutie pies! I really need to practice more with mine to see if I can train them.
