I brought my Beagle home today
Edited on Tue Mar-07-06 07:07 PM by Carla in Ca
We rescued our sweet Jean 5 years ago from a puppy mill. She has been on meds for an unstable immunity system ever since, but she has never been really sick before.
Last Tuesday night, she did not eat her dinner. She didn't eat breakfast the next morning either so we knew something was wrong. She started eating a lot of grass but that didn't solve the problem. I took her to the vet and he suggested Maalox. Wednesday night at 11:00pm, she collapsed. We rushed her to an emergency clinic. She had many tests but was released at 7:00am Thursday. We took her straight back to the vet and she was seen by a different doctor. She had more tests and several x-rays but was getting worse each day. He finally told us to take her to a new 24-hour critical care emergency clinic for an ultrasound. We got her there Saturday afternoon. Within an hour, we knew what was wrong. She has a ruptured gall bladder! The bile was seeping into her abdomen all that time and she had surgery to remove it that night.
We will continue to take her to our vet for shots and check-ups but when we know the problem is serious, we will now take her directly to this wonderful clinic. They have all the latest equipment and a staff of 120 people. We were lucky this time.

My husband and I had a wrenching week of crying, worrying and not even being able to imagine being without Jean. But now we know what to do.

Jean is sleeping now as I tell you my story. I'm crying tears of joy so I can't type more right now. I feel so much better being able to share this with all of you.

Here is a picture from last month

to live near such a great animal clinic. Jean is a lucky dog to have such great human companions. My best to your little family. Hope Jean will be out following her nose in typical beagle fashion real soon.

Edit to add: BTW, Jean is a beautiful girl!

4. Oh what a cute dog she is
I'm so glad the news is good. I'm glad you found a competent vet at the clinic. We have tried 5 vet offices since we moved here and are not happy with any of them.

Hug Jean for me and Cindy and Murphy (my dogs).

ending.
You are so lucky to have found each other.

15. That sounds good, but there is no way
we can do it this soon after Jean's surgery. If you go, we will be there with you in spirit. Hopefully, we can plan something in a month or so.

10. Thank you all for the good wishes
This is one of the things I love most about DU. A place we can share the good, the bad and the ugly. We got her liver biopsy test results today and there will be no prolonged damage. We caught this in time.

We love Jean so much, and we love all of you!:loveya:
