Kitten update:-)
Here are a few new pics of the babies. Michelle has taken them out of the closet and now is hiding them behind the cage. If you recall, I had moved the cage over by the window because Michelle was making me nervous jumping down from the AC unit with a belly full of kittens! Well, as it turns out, though the draped blanket gave her the illusion of privacy, it doesn't drape all the way around, so I was able to get somoe new pictures of the now 2.5 week old kiddos!

I finally pet and handled them last night. Michelle is still swatting at me, except when she is purring at me and eating treats out of my hand (she can't make up her mind if I am safe or not!LOL), but while she was busy nursing them, I reached over and pet them a little. She kept her eye on me, but didn't budge. Then, one started meandering around, and I picked it up and pet it a while. Momma watched intently. I set it back down next to her. Over the next 15 minutes, every now and then I either pet one of them, or picked it up for a few moments, but made sure not to keep them too long.

Michelle handled it pretty well, but when I got up off the floor to leave, she bolted to the middle of the room and growled at me! I guess she was ok with me sitting down and touching them, but when she saw me get up, maybe she thought I'd try to take them.

They are starting to walk around some, but since momma is still keeping them on the hardwood floors, they mostly slide around. I figure by next week, they should have better footing, and I'll have kitties roaming aroud the room :loveya:

1. So cute- sounds like things are progressing
although not as soon as you'd like, I'm sure. Momma cats are protective even with people they know well, so it's really not that surprising she is still wary of you. But her kitties will start to explore the world soon and she won't be able to stop them.

They are sooooo cute! :loveya:

4. It sounds like you are doing a great job of acclimating Michelle to your
presence.

These babies are soooo cute, and Michelle appears to be an excellent Mom.

Thanks so much for posting the pics!!!

6. Michelle was SO GOOD about letting me pet them last night!!!
I handled them, kissed, hugged, and petted them for like 30 minutes last night, and Michelle intently but patiently watched me do it! Just a few swats with no claws, but no menacing growl at the end either! She tends to swat at me if I reach towad her, but if she is laying down to nurse or if she is not between me and them, she doesn't do anything. I think she's finally beginning to understand that I am not a threat to them, and this is great timing, becuase they are on the verge of becoming much more mobile!

7. By the way...
I hesitate to ask, but did Katherine ever reappear? I'd been wondering.

8. No, she didn't.
I've still been setting the traps everyday. Her first foster mommy, who was terribly distraught over this, is doing better. We talked today about only setting the traps at night since it will be hot soon, and we both said we hoped Katherine had adopted another family and that's why she hasn't come home.

12. Hope so...
I guess feral kitties really do have that instinct to live wild. I know a guy who has tried domesticating a group of them but finally settled for providing food outdoors. Still, perhaps she's just found a new home.

And the little ones are truly beauties! :loveya:
