70 Dogs in Odessa Losing Guardian to Cancer. All Need Homes!
We are sad to report that there are 70 dogs at a sanctuary in Odessa, Texas who need to be placed in loving homes. They are currently at a sanctuary run by a wonderful man who is in the last stages of prostate cancer. If these dogs are not rescued soon, he will be unable to care for them and a local humane society will put them down.

Most of the dogs are mid- to large-sized. All the dogs are friendly to dogs and humans; they are starved for human affection. There are no aggressive dogs. The dogs have been neutered and spayed, vaccinated, tested for heartworm and tick fever, treated for ticks and fleas, treated for tapeworms and some have undergone extensive dental work. Most of these dogs have been in the sanctuary for 1 to 5 years. They have not lived in homes, so they will require some socialization.

If you or anyone you know has the time, patience and the room in your heart and home to provide for one or more of these animals, please contact Max Green at Max@idausa.org or leave a message at 415-388-9641, ext. 222 and someone will get back to you right away.

Thank you for all that you do to help animals.

Sincerely,

In Defense of Animals

1. Is word being sent out to all the applicable websites?
Petfinder.com, www.1800saveapet.com and such? I'll mention it to my shelter folks and see if anyone has any input or can help in any way.

2. I wish you luck in finding homes for these wonderful dogs...
Also try posting on your state's forum. Are there any other decent shelters in the area that could help you to find homes for some of these dogs? Keep us posted on your search.

3. I'm actually not in TX. I volunteer with a no-kill shelter in my area &
our volunteer coordinator sent this to all of us. I wanted to put it on DU because I knew it could reach a lot of people. Our shelter is jammed, but we are going to try to make a little space. If we all work together maybe we can save them.

I'm not sure how many places have this info. It came to my volunteer coordinator from a friend of hers that is connected to the Fund for Animals. If anyone has connections with another organization, it would be great if you could pass the info along.

Thank you very much for your concern and any help.

6. I checked with my shelter...
We don't have room right now. In fact, we aren't taking any dogs in unless people can foster them or have a foster lined up. But our dog coordinator said she'd gotten this notice 3 times already, from different groups, so at least word has definitely gotten out there! I hope that some groups will have the resources to help out!
