update on our OLD vet/kennel
A couple of months ago the kennel/vet we used shut down. Parvo swept through the place. Our vet was an EMPLOYEE, she didn't own or run the place.

ennywhoo--

Owners of Back Mountain kennel get jail time and owe fines
STAFF REPORT 04/13/2006
http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=16474008&BRD=2259&PAG=461&dept_id=455154&rfi=6

The owners of a Back Mountain kennel where 35 dogs died last January were sentenced to 60 days in jail and ordered to pay more than $1,500 in fines on animal cruelty and abuse of animal charges.
-------

meanwhile my partner received a phone call yeterday from a reporter at a different newspaper than the article above.

we've been trying to get copies of our pet's records since the place closed down - no luck. Wemade repeated visits/phone calls to the place - no one there, a previous article said if we sent a SASE requesting copies they would be mailed to us -- we did and nothing

we files a complaint with the state's attorney general office in march. According to the reporter over 50 people have filed complaints. The AG office is working with the kennel owner's lawyer, and all those who filed complaints will be sent copies of records.

Hope we do get them. We have 3 dogs who need shots this spring, and we think one of them needs bloodwork for heartworm this year. meanwhile, two of our cats are SENIORS (ages 18 and 20) and need some extra visits to the vet - it would be nice if we had records so we don't have to repeat tests

1. Good news that these gots punished. Bad news that you still don't have
your records.
Damn!
Can your guys get titers or something to ensure they do not have to get shots they don't need?

Most senior pets do not get shots just because they are so senior.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

2. records are coming soon
the Attorney General's office has subpoenaed them, and will mail them to those who filed complaints

we're one of at least 50 that have already filed.

news article today mentioned that records will be sent to those who file with AG office - gave address and website link to download form.. so I'm sure there will be many more filing

yeah we can get the titers - but it costs money to do that - why should we pay for it when a copy of the records would give us the info? if we have to go that route we will, and then file a complaint to recoup the expense.

we are going away end of June, and the dogs will be boarded. they are ok with rabies, and we think only one of them needs the blood test this year for heart worm - rest of the shots -- not sure. So we have a month or so before it really becomes an issue

and like I said if we have to pay for the titers, then we will seek reimbursement from the kennel

3. another article in another paper
mentioned the owners are appealling the verdict, and that they intend to sell the kennel, move back to NY (I assume they mean they will move back to NY after serving their jail time)

and this other article also told people to file with AG's office if they want copies of records

4. 6 months in jail and a $1500 fine
Well that is some restitution anyway. However, a bunch of dogs died from Parvo which is an awful way to have to needlessly die. Too bad they weren't vaccinating the dogs. I guess they could have cared less.

Seems the veterinarians involved have a distinct role as well. Too bad they seemed to have escaped any sort of prosecution in this matter.

I am glad that they have been SHUT DOWN in any event!

Good for you radfringe! :D
