1. Yes, I've known about that one for a long time.
I am against chaining a dog outside, especially when the weather is bad. But some people do and don't even give the dog any shelter.

2. Funny you should mention this.
On my way to work the other day, I passed a dog chained out front of the house. It was a cold, gray day and he was sitting up, sort of hunched over. He just looked so sad and uncomfortable that it broke my heart.

I have four dogs and I don't want to give them full run of the house while I'm gone because they'll sleep on the chairs and couches. We're fortunate to have a room across the back of our house that is long and narrow. We stretched a metal pen across the end of the room and close it up with hooks and eyes. There's a doggie door in that area so they are free to go outside into a fenced yard. There's also an old futon mattress on the floor and a sliding glass door so they love to lay in the sun on the futon. They've often outside when I drive up and they go racing beside me along the fence, then dash inside to wait for me to let them out of the pen.

Here's an older photo of the setup, before we put in the futon:

3. What pretty pups you have
and what a great setup for them - the indoor/outdoor option is great!I have to drive by the back of a house to and from work each day and there is a sad looking dog always chained up. I think about that dog on these bitterly cold nights and my heart breaks too. I wish I could rescue them all.

4. Lucky dogs!
I know a lot of people who crate their dogs all day long while they're at work; then they wonder why they are out of control. These guys look like they have a pretty sweet setup, and it's a great way to save your house! :)

BTW, my aunt has two dachshunds, one of them red and the other black and tan like yours. I love them both, they are such goofy dogs! Her younger b/t one is a lover and silly, and the older red one is very serious. Serious about playing, serious about love, and very serious about squirrels. Dachs are great and yours is beautiful!

:hi:

5. They are such sweet-looking babies.
I wish I could have more dogs, but my house is just too small. I have a 90-pound Rottweiler and I live in a mobile home, so there is actually just enough room for her and me.

6. Thanks, y'all!!
We have four kids and each of them was responsible for bringing to us one of these dogs! Empty nest? What's that? :D

7. What obviously abused and neglected doggies you have. I just wish
that everyone would abuse and neglect their animals the way people in this group do. We used to have an arrangement that looked almost exactly like yours in our first house. It reminded me of them, who have all since departed, but it made me smile.
