Well I'll be dipped! The Tiel has eaten PELLETS!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhallelujah!

Not sure what happened. I haven't decided to fight with him over it again since the last time, so I just gave him his damned seeds with some of the pellets in there. The pellets are some fruit flavored kind - little balls of green, red, and orange, and little yellow "bananas". When I went to empty out the seed shell husk thingies and give him some more seed I discovered that along with the husks there were lots and lots of little yellow bananas! And no colored balls!!!

I dunno WTF - but I am SO happy he's eating them. If I didn't know better I'd think I dreamed the entire 3+ years of trying to get him to eat anything other than seeds - it was such a non-issue all of a sudden. I never did try the fruit flavored pellets to begin with though - I hate artificially colored anything, so I got him some other non-colored kind. Artificial colors be damned, I'm just happy he's eating something that's not seeds!

SO -- since I'm pretty sure he's definitely got fatty liver disease (even though he's not overweight) ... is it possible to reverse that? Or is it just a matter of not making it worse?

Thanks to everyone for their support and suggestions ... I've been at my wits end with animals and their health issues lately. Lots of serious issues going on in my house at the moment, and I'm feeling like an animal nursing home / infirmary. The bird eating decent food is one less thing I have to stress over.

1. Yeah! Glad to hear things are going a bit better.
I don't own any birds, but I used to work with them. I know that their health can change suddenly and that they tend to hide problems until the problem has gotten pretty serious. Good luck with this little guy!

2. That's great!
It took me years of effort to get mine to do so. Just like yours it was as if a switch just clicked in her brain and all of a sudden she was totally content with no seeds.

3. Great news. Wonder if he sensed you
gave up and thought he won? Never know with the feathered kids (or the furred kids). Or maybe you just deciding enough already let you relax enough that he sensed it and didn't feel threatened with the strange stuff that stressed you out? Who knows but glad he decided eat the pellets and good luck to you both in the future.
