My cat's getting neutered today
At the vet, he was weighed--6 months old and already he weighs 9 1/2 pounds! Needless to say, he didn't like the idea of getting altered.

I came home to check the carrier--he broke the freakin' soft carrier trying to escape from it!

1. Awwww!
Poor Boots is going to lose his manhood! Well he'll be happier not knowing what he's missing :) Give him a pet for me.

2. Our new stray kitty goes in on Monday morning.
I wonder if he'll regret that out of a-l-l the places he could have picked he had to choose this household for his new home ;-)
heh heh

He won't miss "them" for long and he'll be all the more happy in the long run.

Years ago my SO had a lab pup and when he was old enough it was time to get him fixed. My SO would have never had him neutered (is that some kind of male thing  ) but pets in my house will be and are fixed, no exceptions.

So off to the vet and while we were standing there waiting for them to take Digger to the back, his last act of defiance was to lift his leg and pee on me as if to be saying, 'I know it's you doing this to me' and god my SO busted a gut laughing so hard. At the time I didn't see any humor in it what so ever, I was quite mad actually, but looking back I realize what a hoot that must have been to see knowing the circumstances behind it. LOL

3. Our mobile vet once neutered our cat on our dining room table.
I watched the entire procedure. It was pretty cool. "Kitty" (we're so creative with names around here!) recovered quite nicely in a quiet room where we could keep an eye on him and give him some loving.

4. I wonder if he got some sort of infection
A freakin' dining room isn't sterile. It makes me wonder if the cat ended up with complications, i.e., infections because bacteria and other impurities from the air, not to mention the doctor's hands, could invade the body and get kitty sick.

5. I don't understand your comment.
If you're wondering whether MY cat got an infection, no, he didn't. He had no complications whatsoever and lived at least another ten years. Unfortunately, a few years after we moved to the country he disappeared and we never found him.

As far as whether a cat COULD get infected that way, I suppose it's possible, just as it's possible to get an infection in the hospital. The vet put a sterile pad on the table and took all the other precautions one would take. She said spaying is too complicated to be done in the home and I believe she said she could only neuter small male animals at home due to the necessary anesthesia. As traumatic it is for some animals to spend a few days in the hospital, she felt the benefits outweighed any drawbacks. I had no reason not to trust her judgment on this issue, either before or afterwards.

7. I was commenting on a non-sterile environment
I was asking if a cat could get infected during surgery in a non-sterile environment (in-home neutering). I understood that there's a risk of a cat getting an infection undergoing surgery without the benefit of a sterile operating room.

6. Hmm

Longhorn never said anything about Kitty having problems or complications from an in-home neutering. Where'd ya get that idea:shrug:

Hell that beats the rubberband method some folks use where I live.
