I got a call from my vet tech last week about a terrible even by Missouri standards puppy mill that got busted in southern Missouri. The authorities seized 27 dogs - Pomeranians and Shih Tzus - and placed them with rescue groups.
I agreed to foster a couple of Poms and they arrived yesterday, very flea and tick bitten but in pretty fair condition. They're both females, about a year old. The larger one has had some moderate muscle cramping from living in a small crate 24/7 but I think a little exercise in the yard will strengthen her leg muscles over time. The smaller one is tiny - about 5 pounds - and she's already made herself at home by learning to hop on the couch. They need house training but fortunately they're already learning from my other Poms.
They're both incredibly affectionate and love lap time. I'm hoping my vet will be able to adopt them out together since they're very attached to each other, although I don't believe they're littermates.
They LOVE the yard and rolling in the grass & exploring. I doubt they've ever had such free reign and it's fun to watch them actually playing for perhaps the first time.
This is their first romp in the yard. They're being watched somewhat warily by my chocolate Pom Luigi:
