Cats and new friends
I have recently started dating a very nice man and have had him over to dinner a couple of times. Everytime he comes over he takes medicine (he's allergic to cats) but seems fine. The strange thing is that my 18 year old half-Abby, Lily has become very attached to him! She has never really liked any men before and is neutral toward my three brothers when they have come over. But when Keith comes over she wants to be in his lap and have him pet her during the entire time he's there. I can't get over the little hussy. I think she might be jealous and wants attention but she wants it from him. Pad Thai still comes over and gets in my lap.

So how do your pets react to your new friends whom you are dating?

1. Lily is just letting you know that this guy is a keeper
My story: When the late great Max (Morris-type cat) was a kitten, my male friend used to come over for dinner quite often. Max showed his jealously by jumping on the back of the sofa and taking a swipe, with his open claws, as my friend walked past him. My friend eventually won Max over by feeding treats like shrimp and lobster from the table. You might want to keep that trick in mind if your friend wants to win over Pad Thai and Charley.

3. my two girls
never wanted to see anyone when visitors came over.

Miss Kitty would come out after a while, but Billi hides from strangers.

The first time I had my boyfriend (at the time) to my apartment....they were like "oh hi, we like you...purr purr, rub, rub"
they never did this with any of my other beaus.

so

I married him! (not right away, of course)

4. My cats have generally been crazy about the guys I date
and fortunately all of them have been cat lovers. Puck used to be aggressively affectionate towards men; she would jump on to their shoulders and groom their heads and faces furiously! Since the last two guys I've seen have long hair she's sort of given up that practice. It used to be pretty embarrassing!
