Hi, I’m new and I need kitty help

My 4 year old male cat has several sores on his neck and cheek that won’t go away.
We took him to the vet 2 months ago and were told that it was ringworm.
We gave him the prescribed medicine but a month later it still wasn’t healed.
So we took him back to the vets.
This time, they said that it didn’t look like ringworm and it was just a sore that would heal once he stopped scratching it.
So they gave us more medicine and put an Elizabethan collar on him to prevent scratching.
It still hasn’t healed. It doesn’t help that he somehow gets the collar off and we have to start all over.

The last time he got the collar off and scratched up his owies, I decided to try something different.
I put a bandage around his neck (2 finger space) and he seems to be more comfortable and not so miserable.
Unfortunately, he can push the bandage aside and scratch still.

Any ideas on how to make him more comfortable and prevent him from scratching?

1. What a sweet boy. He may have some sort of dermatitis.

Could it be flea allergy or an allergy to flea treatment? White cats and white/mixed color cats seem to have more skin problems than most, and some are more chemically sensitive. I have used little dabs of antibiotic ointment on my cat, Oscar, who is black and white, when he gets a little sore place (which is usually in the white fur area as opposed to the black).

I hadn't thought about a flea allergy. We haven't used or needed flea killer in a few years.
I've recently noticed a few bites on me. Maybe it's time to get a flea treatment for him.

I love black and white cats, I had the BEST black and white kitty ever when I was growing up.

3. I once had a cat who licked the fur off his belly

because, as it turned out, he had some kind of allergy. The vet finally gave him cortisone, and the allergy cleared up pretty quickly.

5. I had an orange marmalade cat who licked all the fur off

her lower back and tail and am convinced it was a flea allergy. That was in the bad old days before Revolution and other modern flea treatments were available. She was so miserable and flea collars didn't work very well, but that was about the only thing available other than super toxic stuff.

4. I'll bet it's an allergy of some kind.

One of mine used to get sores and lick and scratch himself. After many trips to the vet and many treatments, the vet thought it may be an allergy to chicken. We put him on a prescription food with no chicken and no problems since.

She was licking all the fur off her legs for months. After a few weeks on prescription food, she's fine.

7. What kind of meds were you given for ringworm?

May I ask what type of meds the vet prescribed for the ringworm? Was it topical only, or both a topical ointment and an oral medication?

I had a kitty once who had ringworm and the topical (only) didn't handle the problem. It took a round of oral medication to finally get rid of the ringworm completely.

This doesn't sound applicable to your situation, but I am always curious how various vets approach things.

I don't remember the names of the medications.

Eddy is peacefully purring on my lap right now (which makes it somewhat hard to type)
