Help with red eyes on Springer

My Springer generally has red eyes off and on. His eyes were looked at by the Vet who suggested something like Visine. Is that ok to use? Does any one have any suggestions? Thanks.

Even my eye doctor wasn't to fond of Visine. Visine stings too.

2. He thinks Darby has allergies which I am sure he does because we now finally have the

ear gunk under control. I just thought maybe someone knew of any solutions....

Ordinary Eye Wash (Sterile Buffered Saline) is proper to use in a dog’s eye to clean the eye but it will not be helpful for an inflamed, sore eye. For a red, sore eye seek veterinary attention immediately. Visine should not be used. It is not therapeutic; it merely makes the eyes less red for a short time. It can be potentially harmful in some conditions. Artificial tear drops or ointments are usually not harmful and may be soothing for some dry eye conditions, but advice of a veterinarian is urged in any case.

4. Was the gunk black?

We had the same problem with our Viszla mix and through trial and error figured out it's chicken protein. So no chicken for the boy, his kibble is trout and sweet potatoe. He has allergies too so the Vet prescribed him some pills and we put some ear medicine in and it seems to clear it up.

5. The ear stuff was black but is nearly gone now as we changed his diet a bit but his

eyes get really red and our holistic kinda sorta Vet (who is really pretty much the best one in this area or at least 45 min. away anyways) believes Darby has allergies. He was from basically a puppy mill and abandoned on a busy street where he waited a month for his owner to come back. I tracked the only breeder in the area and indeed he came from her stock Because she breeds up to two to three times a year I consider her a Mill and I have no doubt that he suffers an immune issue. Overall he s tons better and he is not going blind but has redness which the Vet said could be treated with milder eye stuffs but I fear giving him people meds since he is a dog.

6. oh...it was soy we cut from his diet. I make my own wet food and now use brown organic

rice and some pasta with the vegies and organic meat usually chicken and beef.

7. What my vet recommended

For our springer, was the basic multipurpose solution used by contact lens wearers.
