I spent the last 10 days babysitting a terrier!

Why didn't anyone here tell me not to? Anyway, he came to me biting and wild!!!! He left, after being around my two dogs, the cats and especially my son's dog ARGOS, a sweetie. Boy, terriers are smart and active. His name is Ringo and he is 12 weeks old. I was really sad to give him back to his owners and I will miss him. My dog Zoey, who is a pom, patiently taught him when biting was too hard and she tired him out every night with rolling rough play. The first day I tried to take a tissue away from him and he drew blood. By the last day he had learned "no bite" and he was a love. They take a lot of patience and consistancy.

Just responding to the first line in your post is all ;) ...that, and my ex-partner's experience with his mom's loved (but sadly undisciplined) Jack Russel. They have the terrier stubborness, focus and intelligence and inquisitiveness...and they're always afraid they're missing out on something so they have to be into EVERYTHING RIGHT NOW.
They've got 12-cylinder engines in 3-cylinder bodies...and they're solar-powered so they never...run...down. EVER.

Poor Greg can't go visit his mom like he'd like to do...he's had gallbladder surgery and is still sore...
and little Gilbert is all over him...

When we were out for walks ( it is a farm so no leashes) I had to be extra careful I didn't step on him. He didn't walk with the other dogs, he ran rings around them.

Terriers: smart, stubborn, curious, persistent and, at 12 weeks old, LOADED with puppy energy! You poor thing ... you must be exhausted, LOL!

7. Terriers are super smart...

Smartest than us I believe. We have a 4-year old Manchester who is all of the above. He wants to know exactly what we are doing. If husband is digging a hole he is right there watching every little thing. Totally fascinated. I mean it must be terribly interesting of a human is doing it.
He still acts like a puppy and lord can he jump. Loves trampolining off the couches. We stayed in a large cabin that had several beds in one room and the first thing he did was jump from bed to bed as fast as possible and back again.

"NO" is the hardest thing to teach. We had to qualify "NO" "No cat." "No jump." And both of those things are so much fun he just doesn't understand why they are negative.

The only thing I don't like is their nose to the ground all the time. "Leave it" is another big command but you have to say it almost before he finds whatever offending item he is ready to eat. But we won't go there.

9. His owners were very appreciative

They told me they were ready to give him back to the breeder. The woman had a scar on her forearm where he bit her. Last weekend he was next door, spotted me, and ran just like a rabbit does to get to me. He didn't forget any commands and is getting better.
