Cat problem: Max shook off his bandage covering his surgically repaired ear

What do I do? Max, who underwent surgery to fix a blood blister in his right ear last Thursdy, is scheduled to have his stitches removed this coming Monday, but he shook off his bandage today and now his ear is exposed. He still can't get off the lampshade collar, thank God.

This cat is far too smart for his own good imo. It took him 2 days to shake off the first bandage, and now it took a week for him to shake off a bandage the vets and I thought would be Max-proof. Nothing is Max-proof, and he showed me and the vets up as the idiots we seem to be.

1. If he still has the lampshade on his head he shouldn't be able to scratch his ear.

If it looks like it's healing normally he should be fine. Cats usually heal up pretty fast -- by the time the collar can come off he won't be able to do any damage.

3. I took him to the vet today to get his bandage removed

He ended up getting a bigger lampshade, which can be removed only when he's eating, and then again only under my supervision. Otherwise, he might end up under the bed, where I can't reach him to get his collar back on again! He had to get a new regimen of antibiotics because his first bottle ran out before his infection was fully cleared up.
