My cat wont eat soft food. she will lick up the gravy but not touch the moist

food. I waste a lot of money trying to get her to eat the soft food. Is there a healthy recipe for the gravy that I can make?

I had heard/read that a lot of pet food contains HFCS, and assumed Fancy Feast did (it doesn't). I thought that might be why my kitty is addicted to it. The above list might come in handy.

Boogie likes the sauce much better than the 'meat'. When I feed him, I dump the greater portion in one side, and turn the can upside down in the other half of his food dish. After he's licked all the sauce off, he knows there is more under that can.

2. What is this "soft food" you are feeding your cat?

Is it canned food or is it one of those soft foods in a foil pouch?
Just for one cat?

only eats the gravy. I've tried many varieties of soft food, too. Nothing seems to work.

The other one won't eat any kind of dry cat treat, I have no idea why. Of course, she's more than happy to get into whatever "human" food she can.

4. Have you tried the soft food that's not covered in gravy?

Ours also used to lick the gravy and leave the rest, so we switched to the non-gravy canned food. They love it. We feed them the Wellness brand.

I only buy the loaf kind now--or some brands call it pate. If I accidentally buy the kind in the gravy, I mash it all up with a fork so they don't know the difference.

It's hard for them to lick up the 'shreds' and bits.
Chunks aren't so bad, they can get their teeth into them.

MHO is it's a purely mechanical issue....sorta like the Aesop's fable about the jokey fox who invited a stork to dinner and served him a flat plate of thin soup.

It seems like you're paying for water rather than food. Friskies makes a good pate cat food, and I buy it by the case--48 small cans for $18 and some change at Sam's Club (yes I know, I'm a sell-out). I recently bought a case of Member's Mark there for $15--so far the cats like it fine.

But you know what their all-time favorite, kitty-crack, Christmas-Morning, To-Die-For cat food is-- it's Trader Joe's "Tuna for Cats" --the stinkiest, most wonderful cat food evah!!

10. I think it's tooth pain. The teeth are bothering them. Mine will do that

sometimes, I think it may at times be gum malady, or a sore tooth, or tooth sensitivity.
But then he will eat the hard food and get the teeth back in shape.
But mine just likes gravy, and many times he just doesn't want to use his teeth. He wants me to hand feed him little pieces, which he then just slurps down, no chewing involved.

11. Is your cat very old? Also, I might suggest that if a cat prefers only liquid too

frequently, that there may an underlying health problem such as kidney disease. Cats who only drink the fluids sometimes have kidney issues. Normal harder foods make them sick to their stomaches. I would suggest that if you do not find a good quality soft food that kitty likes, you might take him to the Vet for urine testing. Been there too many times so I had to say something.
