So yesterday I decided to take a shower as usual after breakfast and before doing so took out my lower partial dental plate and put it on the night table in my bedroom and then went into the bathroom to shave and shower. I think I left the bedroom door ajar but didn't realize that would be a problem. Hah! After shaving I popped out of the bathroom to get a fresh towel and saw my denture on the floor with 2 teeth popped out of it and one side gnawed on with Jake standing a few feet away with an expression that said, "I didn't do it". Boy did I yell, but Jake just stood there wagging his tail. Later on I think he knew that he was in trouble because he hid out all evening on the couch with my wife until about 11 o'clock when he tried to make up by bringing me his ball, his football and finally his cherished rubber truck tire. OK, so I relented and took him out for a walk.
Went to the dentist this morning, luckily he can fix them (for a few hundred), but I have to wait until Friday to get them back, which means no talking to anyone without my hand over my mouth to cover the missing front teeth on the bottom for two days.
We adopted Jake in April of this year. He's mostly (I think) Wheaten Terrier, very smart, very playful, loves to meet people and other dogs and almost a perfect dog, but he eats EVERYTHING! We can't leave napkins, paper towels, paper plates, coffee cups from 7/11, any kind of food wrappers or sometimes just plain paper anywhere he can reach or it will be confetti in 10 minutes flat. If someone leaves the bathroom door open the next thing you know there will be the contents of the bathroom garbage all over the floor, shredded of course and even toilet tissue.
I asked the vet about this and he said the dog is healthy and fine and its just a little habit we'll have to get used to but teeth too? Jesus!
